We first met on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. In Fall 2009, we both decided to study on a ship that sailed around the world with 500 other students—and neither of us knew anyone going! During that adventure, we had some mutual friends and were friends/acquaintances, which eventually led us to reconnect eleven years later when we were both living in Los Angeles…
In 2020, we had our first date on the beach in Venice, with our dogs, Bette and Oscar. When Fernie saw Max, she instantly knew he was her person. In her head, she literally thought, “Oh, it’s my person!” (The fact that Max was walking a giant fluffy dog didn’t hurt, but it was really his huge, warm smile, friendly wave, positive attitude, and lunchbox full of charcuterie that won her over in that moment.) It was also pretty great that Bette and Oscar got along so well, too.
From there, even more adventures began—road trips to Big Sur, Zion, and beyond. Then, Max proposed on a ferry in Argentina, and Fernie was completely shocked!
We’re excited to continue this journey, living a life full of adventures, celebrations, trips, and so much more!
